Stepping Stones
Small Business Websites has recently completed a fully responsive, bespoke website for Stepping Stones training programme. The Stepping Stones programme is a training package on gender, HIV, communication and relationship skills created by the Salamander Trust charity. It has been used by many organisations in countries across the globe to address a wide range of issues.
We were asked to redesign and redevelop the Stepping Stones website as it needed a new, fresh, more user friendly design. We were told that the old website wasn’t easy to update, so it was essential that the new website had a simple Content Management System (CMS) for the team at Stepping Stones to be able to upload all their latest projects and news.
We decided to build the new website on a bespoke WordPress Content Management System, allowing the charity to have full control over their website content, anywhere and at any time. The bespoke CMS platform also allows them to easily maintain the website and is integrated with SEO tools for improved Google ranking.
The Stepping Stones website underwent a significant design update. The new website provides an improved, responsive contemporary interface and works across mobile, tablet and desktop devices. The new website’s structure is easy to access and allows visitors to learn more about Stepping Stones, browse the charity resources and sign up to their newsletter.
The Stepping Stones website is the second website Small Business Websites has created for the Salamander Trust charity.
The Stepping Stones website has recently been launched. Please visit: www.steppingstonesfeedback.org to view the website and read more about the Stepping Stones programme.
Content Management System
The website has been integrated with Content Management System (WordPress) allowing Stepping Stones team to easily manage pages and articles, as well as making it straightforward to maintain the website. The customised WordPress platform also makes it simple for the team to manage their digital assets like images and PDFs documents.

Responsive web design
The new website is fully responsive and provides an enjoyable experience to users across all screen-sizes and browsers.
Restricted access to pages
Stepping Stones wanted to find out how their training programme materials are being used and where, so they have decided to restrict access to all pages except the home page until the user provides them with more details. We suggested that the restricting of areas on the website should be done using a newsletter signup prompt and integration with the MailChimp email and marketing platform. This has allowed the Stepping Stones team not only to gain valuable user data, but also create a database of email addresses to use for their newsletter.
SEO tools integration
As with all our websites, we have implemented Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) tool into the Stepping Stones website to help the charity increase their exposure on popular search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. The SEO tool provides real time page analysis and allows the charity team to set focus keywords, a title and a meta description for each post, page and media element on the website. The team can also optimize posts and pages for sharing on social media accounts.
